New Haven, CT (May 6, 2013)GreenBrideGuide.com, the leading site for green weddings answers the call of concerned brides asking, “How do I reduce the impact of my wedding on the environment?”

All of our everyday activities create an environmental impact, but weddings and all the related events — rehearsal dinner, bachelor/ bachelorette parties, honeymoon, etc. — can significantly increase this impact. A carbon footprint is a way to measure this impact. GreenBrideGuide.com recently partnered with The Carbon Farmer to help brides measure the carbon footprint of their wedding and to help reduce the impact that cannot be avoided. Beginning with one family’s dream to sustain their farm, The Carbon Farmer has grown to create habitat and climate change by providing carbon offsets through the planting of trees.

“Our philosophy at the Green Bride Guide is that we should reduce what we can and offset the rest. Using our carbon calculator is a great way to assess the carbon footprint of your wedding, and reduce the impact that you cannot eliminate,” says Kate Harrison, CEO of Green Life Guides.

What is a carbon footprint?

A carbon footprint is an estimate of how much a particular activity contributes to climate change.

Greenhouse gases are measured by weight, so carbon footprints are usually expressed in pounds or tons.

One ton of CO2 gas could fill 130,000 gallons of milk or a 2,200 square-foot house.

Most Americans produce about a half ton of CO2 gas every week by driving, heating, cooling and powering their homes.

Taken together American weddings produce the same footprint as 8.3 million cars on the road for a year.

 What is a carbon offset?

Carbon offsets are a way to fight climate change by supporting projects that remove CO2 from the air or that reduce future emissions.

Each of The Carbon Farmer’s Carbon Plus Credits are equivalent to the reduction of one ton of greenhouse gas emissions, created by the planting and care of trees.

How it works

Green Bride Guide have partnered with The Carbon Farmer to create this easy to use tool that lets you calculate your footprint and purchase offsets in one place.

The calculator includes both an Express option as well and an advanced option for those couples that want to count every pound of their emissions, and in both cases the values are derived from Brighter Planet carbon models.

The carbon storage assessments for the offsets purchased are completed by third party firms and matched to the particular conditions in the area, including soil type.
