Book Review: Raising Baby Green: The Earth-Friendly Guide to Pregnancy, Childbirth, and Baby Care

When my husband and I found out that I was pregnant with our second child in the Wal-mart parking lot (long story), I knew that I wanted to do this pregnancy differently. The first book I picked up was Raising Baby Green.

I found it very easy to follow, which was important to me since between work and caring for my son, I had little to no time to sit down and read as it was.    For moms on the go finding information you need is by no means difficult to achieve. The book offers a wonderful index of the information you can read in the book. It takes the guess-work out of trying to figure out where you will be able to find the information.

One thing I must say about this book, after reading it, is that I came away with more knowledge on how to not only better the life of my unborn daughter but how I can improve the life for my son as well. I questioned every move I made as a parent:

Are the sheets I use on my sons bed and in the baby crib the best?
What is the best bottle or sippy cup?
What is in the food that I feed my son that could do him harm?

My children deserve for me to be the mom, parent and person that I can be and I believe that this book has done that through the advice and the information that offer.

The only complaint I had was I wish the book offered up more green budget-friendly solutions.    In some areas of the book there is a definite “push” to buy, buy, buy and with my family on a shoe string budget I was unable to find many of the “green” products mentioned in the book in a price range I was able to find at the time.

Overall, if you are wanting to make a change and raise your children in an organic and eco-family setting then this book is a really good place to start. Even though my daughter is almost 2 and my son is almost 4, I still find my self going to the book looking for answers. If you get a chance to read this book please let me know your own views.
