California Pizza Kitchen Restaurant Review #NewCPK @calpizzakitchen

Where can you go to brussel sprouts and bacon on a pizza? Or what about pizza with eggs, sunny side up? You can get this and more at California Pizza Kitchen.

A number of bloggers and I were invited to visit the new California Pizza Kitchen in the International plaza Mall in Tampa, FL on Westshore Blvd. I was so excited to go. The only experience I had with the brand was the frozen pizzas at the grocery store. My favorite being their White pizza with ricotta cheese, a little extra garlic on top, more garlic crème fraiche sauce, leafy green spinach, and a crispier crust.

Even their oven-ready pizzas are high quality. So I knew when I had the opportunity to visit the restaurant I was going to be in for a treat. That is putting it very mildly because I was quite frankly blown away not only by the quality of the food they produce but also by the atmosphere. Aside from the atmosphere let’s get on to my favorite part of the event…the Food…omg the Food!

Non-Alcoholic Beverages and Cocktails

I HAVE to start with my unexpected favorite….

California Roots

Svedka Vodka

Fresh Avocado & Mint

Fresh Agave Sour

Fennel Salt Rim

The reason this was an unexpected favorite was because I heard the ingredients BEFORE tasting the drink. I like avocado don’t get me wrong but as a drink and in an alcoholic drink at that. It…was..AMAZING. It was weird though because it tasted like Key Lime Pie but there was no lime in whatsoever.

Blueberry Ginger Smash

Jack Daniels Tennessee Whiskey

Monin Organic Agave Nectar

Domaine de Canton Ginger

Fresh Blueberries & Lime

Cranberry Juice

Fresh Strawberry Mango Cooler

Fresh Strawberry hand shaken with Fresca and Monin South Seas

The other drinks provided were amazing in their own rights but my heart is still with the California Roots.

California Flatbreads

Yes my friends you read that right Brussels and Bacon! Of all the things I never thought to put on a pizza, brussels sprouts would have been at the top of the list. The first thought that came to my mind was “I wonder if my kids would eat brussels sprouts now?”

Roasted Brussels sprouts with sweet caramelized onions, Nueske’s applewood smoked bacon, creamy goat cheese, Romano and cracked black pepper.

It was amazing, you could definitely taste the brussels sprouts but it did not over power the rest of the toppings and spices.

Shaved fingerling potatoes, Nueske’s applewood smoked bacon, caramelized leeks, Parmesan, Mozzarella and fresh cracked black pepper. Topped with two sunny-side up eggs.

You know, in college I did eat pizza for breakfast on a number of occasions…California Pizza Kitchen just took it to a whole new level. Here are the highlights from the rest of our time there:

Harvest Kale Salad

Baby kale, toasted farro, roasted butternut squash, Napa cabbage, shaved pear, marinated cranberries, spiced pecans and goat cheese tossed with housemade citrus vinaigrette

Cedar Plank Salmon

North Atlantic salmon roasted on a cedar plank in our hearth oven with smoked paprika and lime. Served with white corn & spinach succotash and topped with Feta.

Fire Grilled Ribeye

12oz USDA choice ribeye grilled with house made Pinot Noir sea salt and topped with creamy bleu cheese butter. Served with roasted fingerling potatoes and lemon-garlic arugula salad.

Now the moment we all were waiting for…yes the drinks were good, the food delicious but mama loves her sweets and California Pizza Kitchen delivered. The first thing they brough out after one bite I swear it was like one of those moments where the lights dimmed and everything took on a dream-like quality after one bite of the…

Salted Caramel Pudding

Rich caramel pudding, black cocoa cookie crumbs, housemade whipped cream, caramel sauce and natural flaked sea salt

Butter Cake

Pumpkin Cheesecake

Overall, it was an amazing experience (and yes they offer a very affordable kids menu). I found it to be a good atmosphere for families, a night out with friends or even a date night with your someone special. The food, the atmosphere and the freshness and imagination of the menu is something you will never forget and will keep you coming back for more.
